Almost every woodworker has experienced this at some point:

You spend hours building a project.

The cuts came out great.

The joinery fits.

Everything looks solid.

And then you apply stain or finish...

and suddenly every scratch, swirl mark, glue…

If you've spent any time around woodworking, you've probably heard somebody talk about wood grain like it's some mysterious force of nature.

And honestly?

They're not completely wrong.

Because once you start building things with real wood, you quickly realize…

If you spend enough time around woodworking, eventually somebody is going to start talking about hardwoods and softwoods like everybody is just magically supposed to know the difference.

And honestly?

The names themselves make it more confusing than it needs…
